ART ON THE MOVE is proud to announce the launch of CREATIVE PATHWAYS a new workforce development initiative delivered in partnership with Minderoo Foundation that will strengthen career pathways for emerging arts professionals across regional Western Australia.
The program offers paid traineeships hosted by regional arts organisations, giving emerging arts workers the opportunity to gain hands-on experience, accredited training through TAFE and mentorship from industry professionals.
Developed in response to the need for skilled visual arts workers in regional Western Australia, CREATIVE PATHWAYS supports trainees to contribute to the delivery of exhibitions, public programs and community engagement activities within their local organisations.
By combining employment, training and professional support, the initiative aims to build local expertise, strengthen regional arts organisations and create more accessible entry points into the visual arts sector.
The first CREATIVE PATHWAYS trainees are Johnny Oberholzer, hosted by North Midlands Project in Carnamah; Neela Marshman, hosted by the Cannery Arts Centre in Esperance and Alison Hare, hosted by Arts Narrogin. Additional host organisations and trainees will join the program over the next three years.
ART ON THE MOVE Executive Director Ricky Arnold said the partnership represents an important investment in the future of regional arts.
“This is an exciting partnership for ART ON THE MOVE and Minderoo Foundation, which supports a new generation of regional arts workers through paid traineeships.
The skills involved in operating a successful regional gallery are often unseen, and the potential career pathways invisible. This traineeship program offers each trainee a year to explore all the aspects of gallery management, with industry mentoring opening advanced learning in any chosen specialisation each individual trainee may have.
Targeting the development of arts administration skills relevant to unique regional gallery spaces, empowers local people in their own communities. Connecting local trainees with ART ON THE MOVE’s statewide exhibition touring network will expand opportunities for peer support and industry relevance, opening future employment in the WA creative sector.“
Minderoo Foundation Executive Director, Communities Penny Dakin said the partnership would help create new opportunities for emerging arts professionals in regional WA.
“Minderoo Foundation is proud to support ART ON THE MOVE to create more opportunities in regional Western Australia. Together, we’re investing in emerging arts professionals to gain hands-on experience, build their skills and contribute meaningfully to their communities.”
The CREATIVE PATHWAYS program is made possible through support from Minderoo Foundation; the Regional Creative Industries Fund with support from the WA Government; and assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body.
