About the Regional Exhibition Touring Boost

The Regional Exhibition Touring Boost (RETB) program is an $8 million McGowan Government election commitment that will widen the sharing of Western Australian culture within the State. It is delivered by key partners the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA) and Art on the Move (AOTM).

The aim of the RETB is to share Western Australian culture more widely within Western Australia and attract visitors, by touring more high-quality visual arts exhibitions. This includes providing advice, professional development, expertise and meaningful life-long learning opportunities.

Freighting Ideas

Freighting Ideas is a paradigm shift that challenges the notion of traditional exhibition touring by making audiences, ideas and creativity central to engagement. In this model a key concept connected to works via a series of capsule exhibitions from the State Art Collection, is used as a starting point for developing projects and engagement opportunities that are relevant and meaningful to diverse regional WA audiences.

Audience Ambassador: Famous Sharron

ART ON THE MOVE are delighted to have Famous Sharron as the Freighting Ideas Audience Ambassador. Her role is to connect audiences to contemporary art and champion art in WA.

A message from Famous Sharron:

Hello Dolls,

If you’re anything like me, the closest you’ve come to a painting is in the doctor’s waiting room and most of the art you own is made of pasta and stuck to the fridge door.

I became the Face of WA. Because no-one else wanted the job.
I love it, I’ve been going to all the Hollywood locations, Bunbury, Geraldton, Karratha.

And now I‘ve been given the inaugural honour of being Audience Ambassador for Freighting Ideas, a brand new ART ON THE MOVE and Art Gallery of WA touring program.

Isn’t that fabulous, dolls?

Read: Famous Sharron

Audience Ambassador, Famous Sharron wrote her first ever book – A Guide to Famous (and Not So Famous) Art. Originally touring with exhibition How Did I Get Here, you can get your own digital copy below!

Who is Famous Sharron?

Famous Sharron is very famous for nothing at all. She lives in Perth with her husband Darren and four kids – Shardonnay, Brad, Pitt and Sirri. She tours regionally to make art in WA more famous, as Audience Ambassador for Freighting Ideas and the Face of WA. She loves chatting to fans, and avoiding the dishes…

These projects are made possible through the Regional Exhibition Touring Boost managed by the Department of Local Government Sport and Cultural Industries, supported by Royalties for Regions and delivered in partnership by ART ON THE MOVE and the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
