North Midlands Project and ART ON THE MOVE are pleased to partner this year to deliver the Activating Collections + Threads in Common Artist in Residence.

In 2024, one Western Australian artist will be provided the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a significant research project while living and working in Carnamah and surrounds.

Application outcomes will be announced on or prior to May 20, 2024.

THE OPPORTUNITY

We are all complex and glorious individuals. Together we create a rich tapestry that is community. Threads in Common explores diversity and inclusion using culture and the arts to build connection and respect through shared experiences and understanding.

North Midlands Project

Hosted by North Midlands Project and the Carnamah Historical Society and Museum, this residency program invites artists to engage with the North Midlands community and heritage collections, in response to the curatorial theme Threads in Common.

The selected artist will be supported to develop a body of creative work, plus deliver a series of community workshops with some or all of the towns in the North Midlands, including Carnamah, Coorow, Eneabba, Leeman, Mingenew, Morawa, Perenjori and Three Springs.
RESIDENCY DATES

The residency should take place from August – December 2024. A minimum of 8 weeks to be spent on location, undergone consecutively or in blocks.

WHAT THE ARTIST RECEIVES
  • $20,000 towards living allowance and project expenses
  • Access to relevant collection(s) on location
  • Project support and guidance from the North Midlands Team including Exhibition, Community Workshops, SEW-Arts School Workshops and Collaborative Work(s)
  • Accommodation and studio/workspace
  • Orientation period and connections to the local community
  • Training in QPR Mental Health, SEW-Arts and PERMA Evaluation
  • Access to Employee Assistance Program during the residency
  • Marketing and promotion of residency and outcomes by North Midlands Project and ART ON THE MOVE
WHO CAN APPLY
  • Applicants must be practicing artists who live in WA and have Australian citizenship or permanent resident status
  • First Nations artists are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Regionally based artists are strongly encouraged to apply
KEY APPLICATION DATES
  • Applications open Thursday March 21, 9am
  • Applications close April 26, 5pm
  • Successful applicants notified by May 20
